Who we are looking for

A Head of Engineering who will drive the strategy across a large cross functional Engineering function.  This role will be a thought partner for Product leading on our touchpoints across Booking.com for the Cars and Rides Products.  You will have a distributed Engineering function with relationships across Manchester, London and Amsterdam to manage.  Your skills and experience should align to the following:

  • Demonstrable experience of building, shaping and leading a cross functional Engineering function or business unit at scale (100+ people)
  • Demonstrable experience of working in Agile environments and more importantly an Agile culture and ethos
  • Servant leadership approach by default when leading teams including situational leadership and coaching
  • Demonstrable experience of setting, leading, driving and influencing both the Engineering and Business strategy
  • Must understand technology and have a background in the digital online space
  • Natural leader and communicator who is collaborative and builds great relationships
  • Well versed in Engineering Craftsmanship
  • Proficient in the Delivery & Programme Management of Engineering teams
  • Strong influencer of senior stakeholders and business strategy
  • Be humble and human
  • Be able to deputise for the CTO
  • Strong commercial acumen

    7. Organisational design, strategy and budget
    8. Deputise for the CTO
  • Technology, Craft & Delivery Leadership
    1. Foster mastery in engineering craftsmanship including shaping ways of working
    2. Engineering delivery within your function
    3. Lead, influence and shape the Engineering organisation and strategy objectives
    4. Embed Agile ways of working and values within the organisation
    5. Drive a DevOps environment including on call escalations
  • Architecture & Product Strategy
    1. Own and drive the technical strategy for your function
    2. Strategic thought partner to Product, Architecture, your colleagues and the wider Business
    3. Shape, define and build new products, processes and operational plans
    4. Set the strategic importance of roadmap features in your function and influence of functions roadmaps
    5. Drive innovation in your function
    6. Own the architecture across your function
