The challenge

Despite being the largest ground transport business in the world, including the and brands, BookingGo still has a huge opportunity to grow.

The role of commercial director is pivotal to realising this growth, leading the commercial department responsible for our supply partnerships, pricing and other commercial activities around the world.

You would have P&L responsibility for continuing to rapidly grow our well-established car rental business, bringing the right commercial proposition to new audiences, leveraging our technology to take hassle out of the customer experience and pushing the existing business harder.

You would also be responsible for commercially scaling our less mature taxi, bus and train products with a strong focus on customer experience and for working to better bring all of our products together for customers.

Key responsibilities

You will be accountable for the commercial leadership of our ground transport products across different markets to drive customer satisfaction, volume and profit growth.  This will include setting and delivering commercial strategies for our different markets and our different transport types to attract and retain customers for and

Leading commercial decision making and driving a trading rhythm will be key.  This includes driving pricing, promotion, customer satisfaction as well as other commercial levers, in a fast-moving market place, to beat our targets.

A successful candidate will also need to lead our relationships and negotiations with our supply partners around the world.  Positive, mutually beneficial relationships with our supply partners are critical, as are well run and focused negotiations and you would need to build up both key accounts and smaller partnerships with local accounts.  This will include getting the right strategy for growing our different types of partners and building the right technology and partnership proposition for them.

Innovation is also critical.  The world of ground transport is developing fast and customers are increasingly expecting technology to deliver a hassle-free experience.  We need to be at the forefront of this development, providing ever simpler ways of getting around for our customers.

The role carries responsibility for an already large team which will need to grow and evolve to deliver our ambitions.  You will need to lead the strengthening and development of the existing team and broaden the skill sets of the team as we look to grow new products and services for different customers around the world.  You will also need to build up and then continually improve ways of working within the department from processes to systems and data.

Underpinning all of this is a need to ensure we comply with all external and internal insurance regulations and policies.

Taking an entrepreneurial approach to developing new strategies and products.

Integrating our partner’s operations pricing and customer experience into that of BookingGo

Supporting the development of improved MI, tools, ways of working and training programmes

Skills and experience

Demonstrable experience in motivating and leading large teams

The ability to think strategically both about the department and the business overall

First class commercial problem solving, analysis and decision-making ability, with proven capability to take high levels of ownership and accountability and operate independently

Outstanding relationship building and negotiating skills, based on an ability to think strategically and creatively for all parties

Confident, clear and concise communication skills and strong influencing skills

The ability to process and act on detailed commercial data

Deep understanding of operating successfully and compliantly in a regulated environment

Determination to achieve results in a high energy environment

Ability to thrive under pressure, deal with ambiguity

Strong presentation skills

Practical ability to prioritise based on value and drive action

Essential criteria

Educated to degree level or equivalent

At least 15 years experience including commercial leadership team roles

Experience of P&L responsibility and management of sizeable teams including commercial innovation, pricing and negotiation

Deep experience of building partnerships

Desirable: Experience of working in or with multiple countries and cultures
