Commercial Reporting Analyst - Marketing

The role:

We have an excellent new opportunity for a reporting analyst to join our business planning team. The successful candidate will help inform decision-making and solve business problems by converting data into information and insight.

If successful you will be someone who is to further their career commercially.  Alongside working with commercial planning analysts and business partners, this role offers the unique opportunity to work closely with marketing specialists, allowing you to develop into a well-rounded and sought after commercial analyst.

You will be responsible for:

  • Establishing the reports and data the department needs to operate effectively, making them readily available, in an easy to consume format, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Working with analysts and business partners to question and analyse data, providing insight and recommendations to aid business decisions.
  • Developing and innovating the department’s datasets, working with stakeholders to build proof of concepts and liaising with the central MIS function to productionise.
  • Reviewing legacy reports and datasets, looking to improve, automate and simplify.
  • Investigating and seeking to resolve any identified data integrity issues, providing feedback to the source of the issues to attempt to remove possibility of reoccurrence

You will be a key member of the team, supporting not only the business planning function but also the wider marketing department.


We are looking for a confident individual who is a strong communicator. Preferably you will have relevant experience within E-commerce and travel, or high transaction low value environments e.g. retail.

Experience with SQL is essential for this role, you will have worked with large and complex datasets in previous roles.  A proven capability of extracting relevant and accurate data from various sources, developing and automating processes to achieve efficiencies and time savings, as well as administering data sets is crucial.

You will be experienced with Excel, being able to connect to and import data to and from spreadsheets.  Using Excel you will be able to produce concise, meaningful and manageable reports and models.  Ability with VBA and PowerPivot is desirable but not essential.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Previous BI/Business Reporting Analyst
  • Comprehensive working knowledge and a strong level of programming and administration ability with SQL Server (MS essential, MySQL desirable).
  • Minimum of 2.5 years’ experience
  • Experience of BI reporting tools (Tableau, Power BI etc)
  • Intermediate Excel skills including data modelling, report writing and data connections.
  • Able to work effectively under your own initiative, as well as part of a wider team

Desirable Skills:

  • Ability to communicate and translate between business needs, data structures and analysis conclusions
  • Ability to communicate complex, technical ideas to a non-technical audience
  • Experience with data warehouse, and experience with other Business Intelligence tools an advantage
  • Experience with web analytics desirable
  • Statistical or forecasting experience an advantage
  • Advanced Excel skills including VBA, PowerPivot, plotting multiple axis graphs and a practical knowledge of a wide range of functions and nested statements
  • Strong presentational skills, communicating clear and concise findings, recommendations and conclusions
