Head of PPC Operations / Senior PPC Manager


We are looking for a talented Head of PPC Operations to report into the Director of Performance Marketing in our Manchester Fountain St office to help rentalcars.com continue our amazing growth. Joining one of the highest spending Google clients, this role will be pivotal to the success of the rentalcars.com business from 2018-2020, ensuring world class management over all Operations within the PPC portfolio and helping rentalcars.com remain best in class.


Core PPC responsibilities within the role will be:

Keywords – Improving process to automate keyword generation and test/analyse templates

Creatives – Improving process to automate creative testing and test/analyse copy

Advert Extensions – Ensuring full global coverage. Testing new extensions as soon as available & rolling out things that work globally

Account Structure and New Accounts – Creating new accounts for new markets and working with the bidding team to find better account structures for existing traffic

New Destinations – Oversee and create a better process for getting new destinations live and maintaining existing destinations

Dynamic Search Adverts – Optimising DSA accounts from a structure perspective & owning the search query reports

Bing & Smaller Engines – Being the main point of contact & owner of the day to day relationship with Bing/Yahoo/Yandex/Others and managing a small centralised Bing team responsible for coordinating Bing priorities with specialists across the wider PPC Team

Criteo/GDN Retargeting – Managing the retargeting strategy and implementation across both networks


As a senior manager at rentalcars.com, it is essential that the candidate is excellent as a people manager as well as being highly proficient in PPC. The candidate will be managing a team of 7-8 people with the potential to grow further. Some of the essential things the candidate must bring to the role are as follows:

  • Being outstanding at prioritising resources for the right work based on sensibly calculated return on investment approximations.
  • Understanding the concept of ROI and its importance within all aspects of the team

  • Being humble enough to know when you’ve made a sub optimal or poor decision, then being able to change direction quickly. Being ready & able to seek out support when you need it
  • Being engaged and interested in the top level PPC channel performance, understanding trends, asking questions and anticipating tough upcoming comparisons
  • Being able to confidently & clearly describe & explain what is going on in your area with the wider team and to senior management (including the Leadership Team and CEO)
  • Being the driver of operational excellence within your teams and taking efficiency of tasks to a higher level
  • Moving at a fast pace whilst never sacrificing the quality of output
  • Working closely with the Director of Performance Marketing to evolve the strategy within your area
  • Working with the Director of Performance Marketing to understand and address feedback across the team, particularly around better cross team communication
  • Being a general expert in PPC knowledge

Essential things for the role include:

  • Educated to degree level or similar preferably in a numerical/analytical field such as Economics, Mathematics or Statistical Analysis
  • At least 5 years’ experience within PPC
  • Previous experience of managing a high performing team, high performing projects or being a team leader to a successful business unit
  • Being results & delivery focused
  • Advanced Excel Knowledge
