Based in the heart of Manchester, we arrange over 8.5 million rentals a year in over 43,000 locations. With customers in over 160 countries, we support our global user base via our website, which is available in more than 45 languages and many different currencies. And those customers have access to multilingual support by freephone or email too, provided by a dedicated contact centre. Technology is a big part of what we do. We’re all about delivering cutting edge solutions that make life easier for our customers. And naturally, we like to have fun while we’re doing it.
And ours begins in 2004 in the US where Nichola, Greg and Laurence (3 of our Directors) quit their jobs stateside and decide to head back home.
At this point they have just nine employees, who are busy booking cars in two countries.
In the early days, our directors ran the call centre themselves, answering all the phones and working 15-hour days.
Our former IT Director once accidentally ‘deleted’ the whole of the UK as a destination by pressing the wrong button.
we were making 1,000 bookings a day, a huge milestone in the company’s history.
The world’s leading online travel business was blown away by our success and acquired the company in 2010. In 2011 it was rebranded as Rentalcars.com and another little piece of history was made.
Rentalcars.com moved to Sunlight House (an impressive art deco building in the centre of Manchester) in 2013. We opened a second office in 2015, our third office in 2017 and we now employ over 1500 people, booking across 162 countries and still growing. And we’re part of the largest travel group on the planet.
