At Rental Cars we look for people who have both sets of skills, the programming of course, the technical side and also the attitude, the personality. So, it’s important for the person to know how to communicate their ideas, to bring the ideas forward, to work within the team. It’s not only sat at your desk doing the coding, it’s actually to take your ideas forward
The job really excited me by me coming up with new ideas for it, such as a big company that I know that it will have an effect. We come up with random ideas just to see if the customer will have a good experience, if they don’t we’ll just try something new. It’s the fact that every day is different, we don’t know what the customer is going to do, how they are going to react to the website so we need to make sure that we’re coming up with new fresh concepts so that they’re seeing something new that sets us apart from our competitors.
The exciting thing about my role is I work on the visual side so millions of people get to see the changes I have made so when it increases conversion I know I have made a difference and I know that millions of people have changed their view based on what I’ve done. The designers tend to send articles and blog posts around by email, we also sit and chat and look at design work, we have design meetings and that works really well for like feedback.
I wanted to move ahead with a company that was a leader in their market. I wanted to get experience with a large company that has got a big customer base. I wanted to be able to have an effect in a design studio that is very experimental, and that really drew me to come and work at Rental Cars. It was an exciting opportunity from the start compared to other businesses in the area. They seemed leading and they have a history being creative and leading the market.
I work with the biggest companies in the world like booking.com. Kayak and Agoda and it’s interesting to go and speak to these people during our annual meetings to see what they do, what we do and how we can improve together. So from a career point of view it is really important for me actually to work on this international level.
